Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is a highly effective, minimally invasive endoscopic treatment used to control and prevent bleeding from enlarged veins (varices) in the esophagus or stomach, particularly in patients with liver disease and portal hypertension. Performed by Dr. Viral Surani, the procedure involves injecting a special sclerosing solution directly into or around the affected veins through an endoscope. This causes the veins to shrink, seal off, and eventually disappear, reducing the risk of severe gastrointestinal bleeding. Sclerotherapy is also used in selected cases when variceal banding is not suitable or as an additional treatment for bleeding varices.
